How to clean red wine stains

Learn how to clean those nasty red wine stains from carpet (or call HoneyDo).

We all know that red wine is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to stains on carpets. It’s probably one of the most noticeable too! So the key with red wine is that time is your friend. If you act fast and remove the stain when it is fresh, there is a fairly good chance it can be removed, by following the steps below.

  1. STEP 1:  Use a clean white cloth and blot the area first to remove as much of the stain as you can.  BLOT ONLY, DO NOT SCRUB!  Scrubbing could further set the stain in the carpet.
  2. STEP 2:  Mix a teaspoon of carpet shampoo (or liquid dish detergent if you don’t have any carpet shampoo handy) with a cup of hydrogen peroxide.
  3. Step 3: Dip a clean sponge in the solution and then blot the stain with the sponge.  You can continue this process until the stain disappears.
  4. Step 4:  Once the stain disappears remove any residue that is left with warm water and clean cloth to blot.  Then use a dry clean cloth or wet vac to dry the area.

Again, you’ll have the most success if you address the stain when it is still fresh.
